Cecilia Wood Is Turning The World Sunny Side Up

Cecilia Wood is the blogger behind Sunny Side Cecilia. Sunny Side Cecilia is a fashion and lifestyle blog all about making small choices in life that lead to joy.

Cecilia started the blog as a senior in high school, and now she’s a junior in college. She admits that she’s obsessed with vanilla lattes, carrying around thank you cards, and re-watching the show Friends.

We had the opportunity to interview her about her journey, blogging tips and favorite inspirations in fashion.

Where is home?

I’m from Birmingham, Alabama, but currently, attend Auburn University in Alabama!

How much has your style changed since you started blogging?

Throughout the years, I’ve become more confident in my style! In the blogging world, exciting and out-there outfits are the norm, but I choose clothing that’s comfortable and wearable as a college student. Right now, I to wear love bright colors because I feel like they brighten my mood!

The Fox Magazine is all about inspiration, what/who inspires you the most?

When it comes to blogging, my biggest inspiration comes from bloggers who use their platform to be authentic! We have the opportunity to share the real moments in our lives and to help others feel less alone, so I’m always inspired when I see bloggers use that opportunity.

Outside of blogging, my mom is my biggest inspiration because of the way she treats others. She is selfless and chooses kindness, and these choices have inspired the way I want to treat others – and the way I want my blog to make people feel.

Do you have any tips or tricks for achieving an aesthetically awesome Instagram page? Any social media tips?

Find a preset you love! Don’t be afraid to play around and try different things but using one or two presets (on Lightroom) will create a consistent Instagram feed. My biggest social media tip is engagement! Everyone says it, but it’s true. Find other Instagram pages you love, leave meaningful comments, and make sure to respond to comments on your own Instagram.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I think people would be surprised to learn that I’ve never been on a plane!

What’s your best advice for people looking to get into fashion and lifestyle blogging?

Just do it and once you do, remember why you started! Blogging can be such a rewarding hobby (or business), but just like any business, it can be frustrating to see slow growth or feel social media burnout. Think back to why you started blogging and use that as inspiration to continue.

Where do you find the most inspiration? Celebrity culture, or what’s trending?

I find Inspiration for new poses and outfits just by scrolling through my Instagram feed. Because I focus on comfortable, wearable clothing, I’m more inspired by what I see people around me wearing! I love seeing the way college students can let their personality shine through their clothing choices.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to push the restart button and make over their look?

Start in small doses, but start. If you want to jump out of your comfort zone when it comes to style, make small changes (like wearing hats or shoes you normally wouldn’t) so the transition to bigger changes is easier.

What style item is a must have that you can never go wrong with?

A black and white striped tee.

What elements separate your work from other style gurus?

My blog is all about making choices that lead to joy, and that includes our clothing! I always want readers, followers, or anyone who stumbles upon my blog to know that their value doesn’t come from how they look or dress – but/ those things can help us feel more confident.

What is your favorite fashion-related motto, quote or words to live by?

“Real style is never right or wrong. It’s a matter of being yourself on purpose.” G. Bruce Boyer
