7 Artists Who Amazed Everyone During Their Performances At Outside Lands 2023

7 Artists Who Amazed Everyone During Their Performances At Outside Lands 2023

The festival’s multiple stages such as Land’s End, Twin Peaks, and the Sutra stage created an immersive environment for performers to give their all to fans.

This year being Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary, Outside Lands proved once again why it’s a must-stop for the culture with extraordinary performances from Tobe Nwigwe, Meg The Stallion, and J.I.D. See below for some of our favorite performances from Outside Lands 15th year anniversary and check out the 2023 recap here.

    Tobe Nwigwe

The lyrics and tone of his music tell the story of a difficult upbringing as a first-generation Nigerian kid in the Alief neighborhood of Houston, TX. Tobe has a singular goal in life: “to make purpose popular” and he is already well on his way to doing so.  His music has garnered a lot of attention, including First Lady Michelle Obama, who put his song “I’m Dope” on her workout playlist.

Tobe Nwigwe absolutely delivered at Outside Lands 2023, performing alongside his family. This was our favorite show of the festival. This show was full of soul, energy, and gratitude. 10/10.

    Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick needs no introduction. Lamar has accumulated a staggering total of 14 Grammy wins and became the first non-classical, non-jazz musician to win a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album DAMN. Kendrick’s latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, was released in May 2022 and immediately earned rave reviews. His performance set the tone for the rest of headliners at Outside Lands.

    Janelle Monae

Janelle Monáe, music’s foremost freeassmuthafucka, is back in action with the release of her highly-anticipated single, “Float,” featuring horns by Seun Kuti + Egypt 80. Janelle is without question one of the most celebrated artists of the modern era, an 8x GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and fashion icon known worldwide for her inimitable style and visionary sound.

    FISHER

FISHER, a name that has become synonymous with colossal dance floors globally, has solidified his reputation as a leading tastemaker and in-demand producer. With roots in professional surfing on the Gold Coast of Australia, FISHER began his DJ career in 2005.  He absolutely lit up Outside Lands with his performance!

    Mariah The Scientist

Born and raised in Atlanta on a steady diet of R&B, Mariah the Scientist arrived on the music scene in 2018 with her indelible project To Die For, showcasing her take on the genre that’s sonically shaped her. Mariah’s honest songwriting and unique conceptual visuals have set her as a fearless and unapologetic voice in R&B.

    JID

Born and raised in East Atlanta, Grammy-nominated J.I.D has been heralded as “one of rap’s best storytellers” (Rolling Stone). He grew up on his parents’ collection of classic funk/soul LPs and broke onto the scene with his 2015 EP, DiCaprio. When J.I.D joined hip hop duo EARTHGANG on tour, he was spotted by J.Cole who promptly signed him to his Interscope Records venture, Dreamville Records.

    Meg The Stallion

Megan’s journey to fame began to gain traction in the late 2010s, particularly with her freestyle rap videos that she posted on social media platforms. Her unfiltered and charismatic delivery caught the attention of music enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. She coined the term “Hot Girl Summer,” which soon became a cultural phenomenon, symbolizing a carefree and self-assured lifestyle that resonated with many young women.
