Janelle Monáe grew up with an eye for creativity.
Starting out as a young girl living in Kansas City, she was far from the spotlight. That didn’t stop Janelle. She attended New York City’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy and improved her capabilities as a strong performer.
Monáe is filled with passion that allows her to stand out among other artists, motivating her fans to do the same. Her journey to fame began when rapper Big Boi heard her perform “Killing Me Softly” during an open mic night in Atlanta. Soon after, Monáe appeared on a number of OutKast songs thanks to this single performance.
The songwriter’s career now consists of two studio albums, one extended play, nine singles, and five music videos plus a Cover Girl contract.
Music isn’t the only calling for the beautifully talented young lady. Showing off what many have come to call the “Janelle Monáe look,” Monáe openly explains that she wears black and white as a sort of uniform to pay homage to the working class.
