Here are 3 first-time 2023 Grammy nominees:
1. Glorilla
Memphis Rapper Glorilla is nominated for Best Rap Performance alongside HittKidd for the song F.N.P (Lets Go). The song was created after the artist took a 60-day cleanse of the toxicity from her life. She is most recognized for her single Tomorrow 2 with Cardi B, which accumulated over 31 million streams on Spotify.
2. DOMi & JD Beck
Hailing from Texas, the duo DOMi & JD Beck are nominated for Best New Artist of 2023. The collaboration began under silly circumstances. DOMi Louna was a teen protegé at Berklee by way of the Paris Conservatory; JD, four years her junior, had gigged since grade school around his hometown, Dallas — first in producer Jah-Born’s band where he duetted with MPC beatmakers and DJs spinning Dilla.
The band made their TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with an incredible performance of “TAKE A CHANCE” featuring Anderson .Paak. Now their music career will only continue to grow further, after making their way to the Grammys.
3. Turnstile
The Baltimore post-hardcore band is up for 3 Grammys- Best Rock Performance (Holiday), Best Rock Song (Blackout), and Best Metal Performance (Blackout). The hardcore punk band formed in Maryland in 2010 and since then has released five EPs and 3 studio albums. Currently, their most streamed song is Blackout, which earned them two of their nominations.
4. 𝐁lxst
Los Angeles-based producer and songwriter Blxst effortlessly blends rap and R&B with unforgettable melodies. After signing with Red Bull Records, Blxst released the EP No Love Lost in 2020. Seizing the momentum, Blxst completed a full-length project with features for Rick Ross, Zacari, and Arin Ray. Around the same time, Blxst was featured on Kehlani’s ‘Any Given Sunday’ and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Die Hard’ which is now nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance alongside Amanda Reifer in the 2023 Grammy Awards.
