LUPA J Releases Electro-Pop Ballad: Perfect Weekend + Announces Mini Album Release

Following on from the release of their debut album “Swallow Me Whole” last year, Lupa J showcased their evolving approach to pop music with “Limbo” in May, recently remixed by iconic Sydney duo, Stereogamous.

One week after the release of techno track “Call Them Up,” Lupa J releases slow-burning electro-pop ballad, “Perfect Weekend” and announces a new mini-album.

As with any Lupa J release, “Perfect Weekend” certainly won’t quench your thirst – three minutes and fifty seconds of their production prowess and emotive layered vocal simply isn’t enough – but you can take solace in Lupa J’s mini-album set for release late this year, which comes after the realization that the next installment of the Lupa J story was too big for an EP. It also comes after Creative Victoria announced the consummate Melbourne-based singer-songwriter-producer as a grant recipient as part of its Music Works funding program.

“Perfect Weekend” showcases Lupa J’s ability to merge the worlds of pop and electronic production, which has created an era-defining sound for the Melbourne-based artist. Their ability to weave affecting lyrics around potent melodies has positioned them as one of Australia’s most exciting electronic artists of today.

“I wrote Perfect Weekend after a particularly horrible night out. I was using the experience of a bad psychedelic trip to paint a picture of a chaotic moment in time in my life, in which I felt particularly helpless and needy.

A big part of writing this album was about admitting to intense neediness I have; a trait I’m slowly learning to handle. Tim Whitten who mixed this track really helped bring out the warped, sickly synths & the emotional intensity of the chorus.”

“Perfect Weekend” follows a feature on Fluxx Volume 1 – a compilation celebrating the first birthday of Fluxx Club, a Naarm-based club night that explores the darker side of club music. All proceeds from the sale of the compilation, available on Bandcamp, will be donated to Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and Black Rainbow.
