New EP From Alt-Jazz Singer-Songwriter CHA:DY: Manifesto Of Honesty
London-via-Paris singer-songwriter Cha:dy releases her highly-anticipated EP ‘Manifesto of Honesty’, out on all streaming platforms.
The EP features already released singles ‘Lazy’ (which has just hit 600k streams on Spotify), the intoxicating ballad ‘Suffocating’, and her latest single ‘Brother’ which premiered on COMPLEX.
Widely praised for her brave, open, and honest songwriting and her ability to capture poignant moments through her storytelling, Cha:dy describes ‘Manifesto of Honesty’ as a ‘sort of music diary’. She says,
“it’s all the things I needed to confess to myself and to everyone else, it’s the ugly honest raw truth.
It’s a big shake of catchy melodies, two confessions, one big secret, a rap track and French and English lyrics combined.”
With her namesake taken from the Arabic word for ‘Melodious’, Cha:dy is a French singer and songwriter who narrates her story from the hood of Paris to the streets of London through her music. She writes ambitious and unapologetic songs about the ups and downs of life, often with darker, more introspective undertones.
On this new project, Cha:dy tackles themes rarely spoken in pop music, such as her own personal experiences with depression and anxiety on ‘Lazy’, coming out to your family on ‘Mom I Gotta Tell You, I Think I Like Girls Too’, toxic relationships in their different guises on ‘Suffocating’ and social justice where she addresses the pain, history and the events that led to the BLM movement last year on the deeply emotional ‘Brother’. And finally, Cha:dy rounds it off with a millennial summer anthem on ‘Pink Lemonade’.
Speaking of the track, she says,
“Pink Lemonade is a fun pop song that describes the heartwarming feeling in the air when the summer comes and you get to enjoy the sunny days with your friends.
A time where you can escape the stress and reality of life in your twenties, juggling multiple jobs or university while trying to figure out who you are.”
Growing up in France, Cha:dy started a girl band with her high school classmates, performing in various Paris venues. Moving to London in 2015 to focus on her solo career, she studied at the prestigious BIMM – launchpad of artists Tom Odell, The Kooks, James Bay, and many more.
Cha:dy takes her cues from the silky production of acts such as NAO, Janelle Monae, and M.I.A, incorporating elements of jazz, pop, and soul, while still deeply inspired by household names like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Amy Winehouse.
Drawing from her combined influences, she thrives on the ability to experiment with her music, transcending genres and wearing her heart on her sleeve. Combined with her sultry yet gritty vocals, Cha:dy totally owns her own brand of bold and gutsy alt-jazz/pop; she is a true force to be reckoned with.
