Winifred Delivers Sonic New Song: Carpet of Flowers

Winifred Delivers Sonic New Song: Carpet of Flowers

The track ‘Carpet Of Flowers’, strewn with a dark euphony and inspired by the comparisons between the human condition and nature’s beauty and fragility: “I want a love like a carpet of flowers.”

The title track came together in May 2023, the morning of a writing session with London-based producer Tutara Peak, as Winifred was walking around Islington listening to a poetry book.

The verses and pre-chorus’ explore the repetitive nature of being stuck in a place of perplexion and yearning, with verses one and two book-ending each other. Confrontational introspection versus elevation and defined desire, with this confusion and repetition perfectly juxtaposed by the chorus’ euphoric lift to a place of crystal clarity and self-assurance.

“I see ‘Carpet Of Flowers’ like a journey, almost like a written/visual allegory where the verses and pre-chorus’ represent the low places and the chorus’ represent the high places. As we were writing, I could feel the production and lyrics capturing my imagination and embodying my senses,” Winifred noted. “‘Carpet Of Flowers’ has this ethereal quality that touches on the intangible and is about asking myself the same questions repeatedly and never rising above the state of being constantly perplexed and wanting.”

Much like the other singles’ Fixed On You’, ‘Want It Bad’ and ‘Blue Fire’, ‘Carpet Of Flowers’ will be released with a music video, where Winifred will showcase her dancing chops and give a visual representation of said carpet of flowers. The EP’s release will see the Aussie songwriter lift the curtain on not only the title track but the previously unheard EP closer ‘You Know How This Ends,’ a raw, heartfelt track that its brutal opening lyric epitomises: “Is love enough?”. With the yin of emotional closer ‘You Know How This Ends’, comes the yang of ‘Want It Bad’, a satirical jab at the “music biz”, exemplifying Winifred’s songwriting prowess, with NOTION stating: “the EP promises to solidify the artist as among the generation shaping alt-pop’s next era.”

Based between London, UK and Townsville, Australia, Winifred released her debut project, aptly titled EP1, in early 2022, which received glowing support from the likes of MTV Australia, Women in Pop, Pilerats, and tastemaking Australian radio station triple j. Her singles’ Drowning Purple’ and ‘Fixed On You’ appeared during the 2021 and 2022 series of Love Island UK, and single ‘Into The Night’ is currently in rotation on Fortnite Radio. More recently, ‘Into The Night’ has been synced in beauty brand SHISIEIDO’s advert for the ‘Ginza Night’ fragrance, which is available now.

Besides her own project, Winifred has co-written for other artists, including Alice Ivy’s 2019 single, ‘In My Mind,’ featured in a global ‘Shot & Edited on iPhone’ Apple TVC. Her most recent collaboration was with producer Tutara Peak on the single ‘Orbit’, released in January of this year.

Winifred’s sophomore EP, Carpet Of Flowers, will be released on 24th May 2024 via MNRK and will include a stunning new music video for the title track.
