10 Technologies That Will Shake Up The Art World
Art is one of the world’s oldest institutions – but as the world becomes more and more digital, the industry is seeing technology become rapidly integrated.
And given that art is constantly changing and evolving, “It’s only natural to see this adoption”, that’s according to Rama Ibrahim of Momentable.
Momentable is an NFT e-commerce platform that enables artists and museums to create, launch, and manage their own storefronts, and exists under the umbrella of Next Decentrum, a blockchain company working to democratize access to art and culture.
We can see how much technological developments have impacted art even in the last decade. It’s shaped what it means to make and consume art in new ways and continues changing our perception of it. Rama claims there are 10 technologies currently shaking up the world and that we’ll be seeing more of in the future:
- Internet of Things (IoT): Essentially a network of connected devices that can communicate with each other and share information, this can easily be applied in art – it allows artists to create works that respond dynamically to the world around them.
- Blockchain Technology: The behind-the-scenes of NFTs, this is an open ledger that records transactions, making it ideal for digital art. The transparency makes it possible to determine who owns what and provides much-needed control over digital content.
- Digital Revolution: This gives new meaning to the term”canvas,” allowing artists to explore the possibilities of art in a rather unprecedented manner.
- AR and VR: While there remain questions of morality and practicality, the applications of AR and VR in art are groundbreaking. For instance, artists can now create work meant to interact with the audience.
- Drones: Artists are using drones to create works that would otherwise be impossible – like in performances and installations, while also allowing for the creation of breathtaking aerial photography and videos.
- Artificial Intelligence: Artists can use sensors to create art that reacts dynamically to its surroundings, or even new ways of inputting data into a program, resulting in works of art based on trial and error.
- Social Media: While it’s not a new phenomenon, social media allows artists to share their works with a wider audience and express themselves in ways only possible via traditional means.
- Math + Geometry: Many artists are now using mathematical models and geometry to create new works of art that were not possible without technology. Whether dealing with data sets or fractal patterns, you can use mathematics and geometry to produce something beautiful and unique.
- Nanotechnology: Despite being more of a science than an art, nanotechnology has recently been made a crucial tool for art preservation. For instance, nanostructures are created to provide a protective coating that protects artworks from harmful light.
- Metaverse: Some artists are already exploring this idea by creating artworks that can be used as a base for virtual reality experiences. The metaverse would allow artists to create new genres based entirely on this concept.

I think that technologies, software and tools for creating new art, such as video games, have changed a lot now. I was recently looking for a 2D game art outsourcing service for a company – https://wallawallastudio.com/2d-art/ so that they can improve several of our game products. I was surprised by their modern approach
