The research team at Refermate has gathered data and analyzed over 8,000 search terms revolving around the concept of ‘luxury’

The United States is known for its luxurious lifestyle, with many states competing to be the most lavish. From high-end luxury cars and lavish apartments to extravagant lifestyles and exclusive goods, many Americans aspire to live in luxury.

1. As far as the official rankings go, New York takes the crown for being the most luxury-obsessed area, with an impressive 10,735 searches per 100K people, with the highest searched terms being ‘luxury family hotels’ and ‘upscale apartments near me’. The state is renowned for its luxury offerings, including fancy hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and high-end fashion stores.

2. Hawaii (10,264 avg. monthly searches per 100K) follows closely behind in the second spot. This is not very surprising, as the state is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and five-star hotels, with ‘best resort near me’ and ‘luxury cruise vacations’ being the leading searched terms.

3. While New Jersey may not have placed as high as its neighbor New York, it still takes third place on the list with an average of about 8,806 monthly searches per 100,000 people. Due to its close proximity to the Big Apple, residents of New Jersey don’t have to travel far for a taste of luxury.

4. The west side state, Nevada (8,682 avg. monthly searches per 100K), takes the fourth spot. Even though Nevada is called the “Silver State,” it is actually the largest gold-producing state in the U.S. and fourth-largest in the world, so it’s no surprise it ranks high in this list.

5. California rounds out the top 5 with around 8,500 average monthly searches per 100K people. Not surprising, given the state’s reputation for luxury and high-end living with the most searched terms in the state being ‘hermes bag’, ‘burberry sneakers’, ‘maison goyard bag’ and more. One of California’s most famous spots, Beverly Hills, is home to the renowned Rodeo Drive—a shopping district that boasts many designer stores selling some of the most exclusive and sought-after items in the world. It’s no wonder that people who appreciate the finer things in life are drawn to this area.

6. Massachusetts takes the sixth spot with 7,974 average monthly searches per 100K people. Boston, the capital of the state, is one of the most expensive cities in the U.S., where you’ll find incredibly luxurious apartments, which correlates to the highest searched terms in the state being ‘luxury high rise apartments’ and ‘luxury apartment complex near me’.

7. With 7,943 avg. monthly searches per 100K residents, Florida takes the seventh spot in terms of luxury-obsessed states. Floridians, in particular, are in the market for luxury property with terms like ‘upscale real estate’ and ‘unique properties real estate’ leading in searches. Not exactly shocking as it’s also known as the Sunshine State and has the longest coastline in the continental US, which makes it an attractive place to invest in a beach house.

8. Up next is Maryland, with 7,865 average monthly searches per 100K people. Maryland residents seem to be quite interested in luxury brands and jewellery, with the highest searched terms ranging from name-brand bags to watches and even fancy pocketbooks, having the highest searched terms be ‘YSL bag’, ‘Cartiers’, ‘Lois Vuitton wallet’ and more.

9. Connecticut (7,633 avg. monthly searches per 100K) secures the ninth spot due to its abundance of affluent cities such as Greenwich, Westport, and Darien. Moreover, Connecticut is home to great attractions such as spas, golf courses, vineyards, and other recreational activities, making it an ideal spot for enjoying a luxury lifestyle. One of the most searched terms in the state was ‘luxury spa resort near me’.

10. Georgia (7,596 avg. monthly searches per 100K) rounds out the top 10. Residents in this state show a strong affinity for high-end cars such as sports cars, luxury sedans, and SUVs, with the leading terms being, ‘audi suv’ and ‘maybachs’. While there may be various reasons behind this trend, it could be attributed to the state’s relatively higher income levels and a culture that values style and status.
