We had the pleasure to interview with Caitlin about her upbringing, entrepreneurial journey, favorite inspirations, and rules for success. Read below.
Where are you from originally and where are you based now?
I’m from Detroit, Michigan, and currently am based in New York City.
How did you get into acting, modeling and designing?
I started acting and modeling while working in New York Fashion Week. I had done a small pilot back when I lived in detroit when I was 19. Of course things died down with college and building my career in fashion, but the itch never went away, when the opportunity arose again years later I jumped at it and kept going to where I am today. Designing was something that has always been in me since I was a child, from organizing my arts and crafts, to playing with rocks and leaves. Its been honed through my career in design at places like Ralph Lauren, but that creativity has been innate.

What was it like when you first got signed to an agency?
Thrilling. The feeling itself is thrilling. At the onset, there’s this sense of limitless possibility and there’s this intensity of emotion that comes with that belief. Of course the reality doesn’t always match the perception, and the activity itself isn’t always glamorous, but you never forget the feeling of knowing you’re now part of this messy, beautiful, chaotic, rewarding organ that is being signed by a large New York agency.
Social media is the widest used method of information sharing and communication, do you think that this will change or only evolve?
I think everything changes or evolves. Anyone who says that something will always only be a certain way will only be proven wrong. The ‘how’ behind the evolution and what something evolves or changes into is what makes the observation of change interesting. Either way, people will always want to connect with each other in new or interesting ways, and social media is one of the ways we’re currently doing that.
When did you first start your company?
I started my company, Seam New York in 2023.
What was one thing you did that exceeded your expectations when you began developing your business?
I just loved how quickly the ideas flowed once things got up and running. I never had this lull or roadblock when it came to what to do next. The creativity was always there, and making something real and tangible from the wispy ideas in your head is some of the most fun and joy I’ve had while making things happen for my business, so that definitely exceeded my expectations.

What does success mean to you? What are your rules for success?
Success for me is defined by personal satisfaction with yourself and the work you’ve done. Everyone’s path is different, and therefore their destination is going to be different too. If you can look at your path, your actions taken while on your path, and the outcomes derived from your actions and be satisfied, then that’s success manifested. Rule for success, I’d say don’t lose your compass. Your compass, your code, your values, whatever you want to call it, keep it close. So many people will do things against their so-called values or what they claim to believe, then say things like “I need to do this for me” or “I have to look out for myself”, as if they’re a monolith on an island or their actions and words don’t impact other people. If you do something that feels wrong or against your code and start saying these sorts of things, it might be time to stop and take a long look at why you have to defend or justify the things you do in the first place.
The right thing, the good thing, the moral thing, they don’t need any justification or explanation. Only when you know what you’re doing in your heart is wrong do you try to justify, defend, or explain.
The Fox Magazine is all about inspiration, what/who inspires you the most?
Ida B Wells. A creator, an inventor, a writer in a time of turmoil and uproar, especially with limited rights for women, what a woman. Exceptional person during a tumultuous time. Just wow.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I actually love to observe and be quiet.
There is so much to learn when inhabiting what’s not been said, and exploring your own mind.
So many people are afraid to operate on the other side of speech, but peace in silence is something I deeply enjoy.

What is your favorite or original innovation related motto, quote or words to live by?
I would lean on Maya Angelou at all times and say: “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”
