Home cleaning platform Homeaglow has revealed the songs people are most likely to blast when doing chores.

From Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton to Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, the analysis examined over 5,000 public Spotify playlists and the frequency of songs in them. Homeaglow added further depth by investigating the BPM of the top 100 songs and its effects on cleaning motivation.

The analysis found that the beats-per-minute (BPM) of the top 100 songs averaged 121 BPM, a figure commonly understood and used for exercise routines, workouts, and gym classes. This suggests that many song choices are more than just sing-along-able; they also help motivate to do the housework and complete an average of 34 minutes of housework per day.

This average BPM figure and its effects on the body somewhat support a previous Homeaglow study that revealed that home cleaning can be an effective workout. Results of the previous study show that cleaning can burn an average of 830 calories during a typical home clean.

Notable data points include:

  • I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston is the most popular home cleaning song, featuring on 106 public “cleaning” playlists.

  • Lady Gaga is the most popular artist to appear on ‘cleaning’ playlists, followed by Britney Spears, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and P!nk.

  • The average Beats-Per-Minute (BPM) for home cleaning songs is 121 BPM, which is the BPM recommended for jogging, workouts, or a high-energy gym class.

  • A typical ‘cleaning’ song lasts for 03:34, with the average cleaning playlist containing 220 songs and lasting over 13 hours.

  • None of the 10 most popular artists are men, with 12 of the top 15 artists female.
