Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into modeling.
My name is Madison Martina and I am 23 years old. I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida with my five siblings. If you are imagining an unpredictable and busy house, you are correct, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Family is important to me and it’s something I’m thankful to have, especially working in the entertainment/modeling industry.
Modeling has always been a passion and dream of mine since I was very young. Growing up, I was with a talent agency in Orlando and would occasionally do modeling gigs. My real journey with modeling started after I graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with my bachelor’s degree in 2018. I knew it was something I wanted to pursue full-time and that’s when I decided to move to Los Angeles, CA.
After you graduated from college, what motivated you to continue with your modeling career? Has modeling always been your career goal?
After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I knew I had the foundation and where with all to follow my modeling dreams full-time. In order to give it my all, I know I would have to venture out of my comfort zone and ultimately move to LA. I grew up visiting LA for vacation every year and I was fascinated by the city’s fashion and beauty culture. I’ve always wanted to learn the ins and outs of the beauty and entertainment industry and use that knowledge to start my own brand and company.
When I was younger, I did competitive cheer and at the time, modeling was just a side job. I actually grew up thinking I would go to school to become a veterinarian, but when I realized how many schools it required, I decided to pivot. I ended up getting a Bachelor’s in Communications and Conflict with a minor in Business and knew I could use that collegiate foundation to pursue modeling in the beauty/fashion/entertainment spaces.
What is one project that you have worked on throughout your career that has exceeded your expectations?
Growing up I would always go to the mall with my mom and we would go into the Guess store. I admired all the beautiful models’ pictures and dreamt that one day I could work hard to become a Guess Girl. Now, being able to work for Guess has been the most rewarding experience. When you arrive on set at Guess Campus, it immediately feels like home.
Everybody I have encountered or worked with on Guess campaigns has been the most genuine and kind person. I would say, it is the Guess projects that have and continue to exceed my expectations. I am so blessed to be a part of the Guess Family and help them share their fashion vision.
Is there a company that you would hope to work for in the future and why?
Yes, I would love to work for Charlotte Tilbury or a major cosmetic company. I say cosmetics because trying out new makeup techniques, whether it’s on a modeling shoot or at home, is something fun that I enjoy. With social media access connecting me to hundreds of beauty gurus on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, it’s been cool to learn a lot of new techniques and transform my look into something new that reflects my mood or passion of the day.
Cosmetics and the beauty industry allow women and men alike to express themselves and bring little bouts of joy. It’s the little things in life that often matter, and for me, it’s makeup. I never go into Sephora and leave with just one thing– The entire beauty/cosmetic experience that innovative cosmetic companies provide is something I really enjoy and would love to be a part of.
Knowing that you are currently represented in LA, Miami, Las Vegas, and Mexico, is there another place you would love to be represented in and why?
I would love to be represented in New York, London, or Australia. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and, I would love to be able to travel more of the world for work. Traveling to new cities is an experience to learn new things and meet interesting people. Plus, my goal is to be the best model I can and in order to make a mark in the industry. NYC and London are fashion capitals, so it only makes sense to work there.
How does being represented in different areas play a role in your modeling career?
Being signed in different cities allows my agents and me to explore broader job opportunities. I love the clients that I have had the chance to meet and work with from different cities. If I want to be the best, which I do, I need to have a presence in all the major cities with designers and fashion brands are creating and doing business.
How do you handle comparisons between you and your colleagues?
I consider myself an optimistic person, but I do have my days where feedback or comments comparing me to others in my industry can make me feel down. When that happens, I’m thankful to have a supportive team, family, and friends to help me stay focused on the positive.
I can only focus on myself. No one is the same and comparison is the thief of joy. We are all unique and beautiful in our own way.
The Fox Magazine is all about inspiration, who/what inspires you the most?
My mom inspires me the most. She is my world and is the most amazing person. Growing up watching her juggle everything while raising myself and my five siblings is something I will always appreciate. She is truly my biggest inspiration. Without her, I am not sure where or who I would be. She has the biggest heart and sweetest soul.
My mom has been there for me through the ups and downs that life has thrown at me and has encouraged me every step of the way. With her help, I have learned to navigate my career in an industry that can be overwhelming. Everyone on my team calls her my momager (lol) and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
With social media being a wide form of communication and sharing information, what are some social media tactics that you like to use to impact your career?
I use social media platforms like Instagram to showcase my talent to potential clients. I love connecting with people online and engaging in real conversations with my followers. With Instagram LIVE and Stories, it allows me to share pieces of my world with thousands of people and connect. I cherish living during a time where we have the ability to connect and work with different brands through the Internet and various social media platforms.
The Internet and social media is also a free resource to learn so much about literally anything. Social media has enabled me to grow my personal brand and constantly know what is going on in the fashion world. It’s been so inspiring to see so many new brands grow their following and customer base through social media that it helped me develop my own clothing brand, which will be launching in the next few months.
What is another form of modeling that you would like to do in the future? (i.e runway modeling, commercial, etc.)
I’d like to do editorial shoots, commercials, or even act in movies or digital shows on Hulu, Netflix, etc. When I moved to LA, I thought it would be a good idea to push myself and try acting. So, I took classes to learn the fundamentals and work on my acting capabilities. Whether people know it or not, professional modeling requires you to tap into a lot of different emotions and act according to what the director wants the fashion brand feeling to portray.
So modeling has offered an overall great foundation for understanding how to act and tap into different feelings or mindsets. Recently, I was given the opportunity to act in a music video and it was a fun and new experience. That job further proved that I love acting and can do it well. Now, I am focused on growing my modeling career and continuing to pursue and work on the craft of acting.
What are some current goals you have for your career and how do you plan on reaching them?
I would like to dive into acting and have made it a goal of mine to land more roles. I am working towards that goal by continuing to attend acting classes to improve my skills. As for right now, I am in the middle of creating my own swimwear line called Kamari Swim, which will be coming out this fall! 🙂 I believe with hard work and dedication that I can pursue successful modeling and acting career while also being a fashion entrepreneur myself.
