The Most Searched-for Royal Wedding Dresses In The World: Who Tops The List?
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress pulls in 192,000 searches a year: seven times more than the average searches for all royal wedding dresses, and nearly triple those of the second most Googled royal wedding dress on the list: Princess Diana’s. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress fetches over five times as many searches as Meghan Markle’s royal bridal gown.
The research, by wedding photographers Carters Creative, analyzed average yearly searches for the wedding gowns worn by brides in the UK Royal Family, dating back to Queen Victoria, to discover the top ten most sought after royal wedding dresses in the world, according to Google search data.
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, was a flawless blend of modern elegance with timeless tradition. The gown, which cost around £250,000 ($316,800), featured a lace bodice with long sleeves, a deep V-neckline, and a full satin skirt with intricate lace appliqué detailing. This dress was a clear homage to the classic styles of royal weddings past, symbolizing the continuity of tradition within the British Royal Family, while its simplicity and refined design highlighted Kate’s refined contemporary taste.
Princess Diana’s wedding dress is the second most Googled in the world, fetching 67,200 searches a year: more than double the average searches for all royal wedding dresses on the list. A fairytale creation, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, Princess Diana’s gown was the epitome of 1980s glamor. An ivory silk taffeta and antique lace creation, adorned with over 10,000 pearls and sequins, the dress’s dramatic puffed sleeves, fitted bodice, and a staggering 25-foot train captured the extravagant style of the time. This dress was not just a fashion statement; it symbolized Diana’s entrance into the royal family and her transformation from a shy kindergarten teacher to the Princess of Wales, encapsulating the hopes and dreams of a nation.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress is fifth on the list, pulling in 10,800 searches a year. A unique blend of history and personal style, Princess Beatrice’s dress was a vintage Norman Hartnell creation, previously worn by her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The gown was made of ivory peau de soie taffeta, with organza sleeves and encrusted with diamanté. The choice of a repurposed gown not only reflected Beatrice’s appreciation for sustainable fashion, but also her deep familial ties and respect for royal tradition, creating a deeply personal and historically rich bridal look.
Rachael Carter, owner of Carters Creative said: “Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambride and now the Princess of Wales, has been a fashion icon since she was catapulted onto the world stage, when she and Prince William became engaged in 2011. As she walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey, the gown she was wearing not only adorned a bride, but a future Queen of England, and it is the flawless, graceful and subtly regal style of her wedding dress that people all across the world seek to examine and imitate, as revealed by the fact that searches for her wedding dress are seven times as high as the average for other royal wedding gowns”.
