And while the 79th year of Cannes Film Festival just wrapped up, looking back at the 78th delivered a masterclass in artistic vision and sartorial excellence, climaxing with the world premiere of Spike Lee’s highly anticipated crime thriller, Highest 2 Lowest.
The Reign of Flacko and Riri on the Croisette
The star-studded premiere brought out a powerhouse cast, including cinematic legends Denzel Washington and Jeffrey Wright. However, the energy outside the Palais reached a fever pitch the moment hip-hop’s ultimate power couple hit the steps: A$AP Rocky and Rihanna.
The duo completely redefined the festival’s traditional dress code, turning the red carpet into a runway for Cannes-inspired fashion trends. Rihanna turned heads and sent the internet into a frenzy, showcasing a breathtaking, custom sky-blue chiffon gown by Pieter Mulier for Alaïa. Beside her, A$AP Rocky – the man of the hour, exuded absolute confidence. In Highest 2 Lowest, the New York-centric reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic High and Low shows Rocky takes on a pivotal role alongside Denzel Washington. Spike Lee notably praised the artist’s performance, highlighting him as a major driving force in the film’s gripping narrative.
