How To Pick The Best Skirt For Your Body Type

How To Pick The Best Skirt For Your Body Type

Choosing clothes is often difficult, especially when, you’re looking for a special occasion.

It can be hard to know what really looks good on you or creates the desired wow effect. Naturally, taking a friend to fittings can help. But, it also pays to know your own body type.

This is important whether you’re heading to Hello Molly for some great prom dresses or the latest skirts, knowing your body type will help you to pick the best skirt possible.

    The Classic Hourglass

An hourglass body type is one that is larger at the chest and hips than at the waist. It’s generally considered to be the most desirable option and is the body type that can get away with wearing almost any outfit.

However, when choosing a skirt, you’ll find pencil skirts are a particularly good option. It will be tight around your waist and cling to your natural curves. In short, you’re sure to look fabulous regardless of whether it is long or short.

    Inverted Triangles

If you have an inverted triangle-shaped body then you need to choose skirts that sit snugly on your hips and expand outwards. It will create balance with the top half of your body.

You can also opt for a skirt around knee length. This accentuates your waist and adds height, again helping to balance your figure.

    Apples & Pears

Apple body types tend to have shoulders and waists about the same size, while pears have narrower shoulders and broad waist/hips. The best skirt style for both of these body types is one that’s a solid colour.

To draw more attention to your shoulders and make them appear broader you need patterned tops and solid colours on the skirt.

The style of the skirt can be figure-hugging or flowing, providing it sits high enough to create a waistline that appears slimmer than your hips. You’ll be edging toward the traditional hourglass figure.

    Rectangular Body

If you have a rectangular body and your hips and shoulders are approximately the same width as your waist, you could be described as having a boyish figure. The best skirt style for this body type is a wrap, it will help you create curves, especially if you add a soft belt to accentuate your waist.

    Consider Your Legs

It’s important that, alongside your body type, you look at your legs and how they affect your skirt choice. The slimmer your legs the more they need to be on show. This creates additional height and draws the focus, ensuring you look fantastic in almost any skirt. Of course, having slim legs means you’ll need to focus on shorter skirts. That’s okay because you have the legs for it.

Don’t forget, your choice of plain or pattern makes a difference. Solid colours work best if you have an hourglass figure while patterns can work well for those with a fuller figure. It helps to draw the eye in the direction you want it to go.
