LAFW Returned With Diverse & Eclectic Fashion

Los Angeles Fashion Week returned October 6th to 9th with a new lineup of fashion brands and designers to the event.

The organizers continued to focus on four pillars — fashion, beauty, technology, and sustainability rather than a particular season, opening up new modes of presentation beyond traditional runway shows”, says LAFW president Ciarra Pardo.

While LA labels such as Revice Denim and Sami Miro Vintage were a main part of the show, the majority of brands at the event are non-LA-based. New York’s anOnlyChild was on the lineup as are international brands Demobaza and Chris Nick, whose dress featured on one of the inaugural Vogue Philippines covers. fleur du mal celebrated its 10th anniversary and Guess‘ 40th anniversary with previously unseen brand footage. We can’t forget about Issa’s first-ever Delta Airlines Fashion Collection either.

Many fashion lovers were pleased with the Hollywood location and the variety of events organized around L.A. Fashion Week. Events included a host of panels, fireside chats, master classes talking about various fashion and beauty-related subjects, including how digital closets encourage sustainability, and a panel on the future of beauty.

L.A. Fashion Week was also the event where Moss Adams chose to present its annual MAFI Award to one outstanding L.A. designer who epitomizes innovation. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the award had been on hiatus since 2019.

The award was granted to Revice Denim for its sustainability efforts in utilizing deadstock, upcycled, and organic cotton fabrics, its commitment to diversity in the workplace, and domestic production which is done primarily in Downtown Los Angeles.

They produce beautiful vintage, iconic pieces, use sustainable fabrics and have a big commitment to a diverse workforce, which checked all the boxes for us,” said Martin Hughes, the apparel national practice leader for Moss Adams, a global accounting and consulting firm.
