Places To Visit This Holiday Season In The Greek Isles

Greece is a country with rich history and culture.

It has been an inspiration to many artists, writers, philosophers, and more.

In this blog post, we will talk about what makes Greece a great travel destination for any adventurous traveler!

What makes it such a great place to visit? Well, there’s the amazing food that can be found all over the country. There are also old ruins to explore like the Acropolis in Athens or Pompeii in Italy; you’ll never want to leave! Don’t forget about all of those beautiful beaches scattered throughout Greece too- they make for perfect destinations at any time of year! This article will go over a few of the best places to visit this holiday season in the Greek isles.

    Crete

If you are the type of traveler that likes to experience it all, the best island for you would be Crete. Crete is the largest island in Greece with the highest population, and as such many cities are popular tourist destinations, as well as many ancient ruins ready to be explored, and a colorful and diverse landscape.

One of the most visited tourist attractions in Crete is the Heraklion Archaeological Museum where you can learn about the Minoan culture, another is Rethymno Old Town which has been preserved well enough to make you think you have traveled back in time. Once you have visited Rethymno Old Town, you can head over to the Arkadi Monastery, which is only 20km southeast, which means a lot to the people of Greece. Chania can provide you with the most wonderful experience as well, and you can book a ferry ticket to Chania through this link. Have dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants, go underwater fishing or ride a bike – this city has a lot of activities to offer.

    Naxos

Naxos is one of the biggest of all the islands in Greece, and as such, there is quite a lot to do here. However, the one thing that sets Naxos apart from the other popular Greek islands, like Mykonos or Santorini, is that the activities here aren’t as aimed at tourists, which makes the atmosphere slightly more authentically Greek.

If you enjoy going to the beach, you have quite the choice; there is the Agia Anna, Apollonas, Mikri Vigla, and Plaka beach to just name a few. In addition to that, you can see Mount Zeus or the Kouros, or take a boat or ferry trip to other islands. There are also many villages to see, like the Apiranthos village, or the Filoti village which is the largest on the island.

    Santorini

Santorini is one of the most popular islands in Greece and is visited by millions of tourists each year. Two of the most popular attractions on the island are the towns of Oia and Fira for their amazing architecture.

Santorini is also home to some of the best beaches in Greece, like the Perissa, Monolithos, Perivolos, Vlychada, and Kamari beaches to list some. If you enjoy adventuring you can taste the wine at the Santo’s Winery, take a hike to the top of the Santorini Volcano which forever changed the island, or even learn more about some of the islands at the Museum of Prehistoric Thera whilst in Fira.

    Rhodes

If you want to travel to one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece which is known for its amazing resorts, as well as historical ruins, then perhaps you should look into Rhodes. More than a million people travel here every year, so expect it to have a touristy atmosphere.

The most popular attraction in Rhodes is the city of Rhodes, and it is visited frequently because of its medieval architecture, which will make you feel as if you have taken a step back in time. Some of the popular attractions within Rhodes are the Byzantine Art Museum, the Suleman Mosque, the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, and the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes.

    Zakynthos

Lastly, there is Zakynthos, a very exotic island that has an amazing resort, and many lovers of water sports and swimming visit this island. For a sight that you won’t soon forget, you should visit the Blue Caves, to see beautiful formations of blue that were caused by the interaction between the sun and white limestone.

You can also visit the Agios Dionisios Church, the Keri Caves, the Anafonitria Monastery, and a few beaches that should give you a decent amount of privacy since this island only gets around 500,000 visiting each year.
