Vehicle Care Tips For A 4th Of July Road Trip!

Vehicle Care Tips For A 4th Of July Road Trip!

Below are some tips from CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries.

AAA estimates that a record 42 million people will hit the road for the 4th of July vacations, and that means making sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape is important to avoid stalling or other issues while on the road. Also, if folks are taking their toys (from jet skis to ATVs) with them, best to make sure those are turned up as well!

Below are some tips from CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries.

    • Ensure that battery terminals are clean and secure
    • Check battery charge levels and recharge the battery if required.  A vehicle’s charging system isn’t designed to restore the battery to full capacity, in fact, it rarely gets the battery above 80 percent charge capacity, drastically shortening battery life.
    • Be aware that in hot weather, a battery accepts a charge quicker, requiring a lower charge voltage to eliminate potential damage to cells and to prevent overcharging
    • It is a common misconception that a jump start, followed by a long drive fully recharges the battery from the alternator.  That is not the case, as an alternator will only party charge the battery.  After this first drive, the battery will need to be charged or it will quickly be drained once again.
    • Finally, “jumping” your car battery can actually damage the battery and the electronics in the vehicle. Better to use a smart charger to revive a dead battery.

Using a smart charger will address all of these issues and help drivers avoid unintentionally damaging their battery by adjusting the charging rate according to the ambient temperature.

Scorching summer days don’t have to spell trouble on the road if you’ve maintained your battery properly with a smart battery charger.
