Ainsley Farrell “Dark Spell” Official Video Out Now Following BIGSOUND Showcase.
Ahead of her BIGSOUND showcase next week, Sydney-based, American born folk artist Ainsley Farrell today releases her self-directed video for her latest folk infused track, Dark Spell.
The video explores the themes of heartbreak and loss of self. “I wrote Dark Spell about losing yourself in a relationship and becoming someone you’re not to appease the other person,” tells Farrell.
“It’s about taking on the heartbreak of two people.”
“The idea for the video was to do all these mundane tasks like laundry and showering with different faces, and have the faces take over and consume me. The magazine cut out of faces are meant to represent the part of you that’s lost I guess… it ended up being a lot creepier than I imagined.”
Filmed by her partner Michael Burley, the video is directed and edited by Ainsley herself, showcasing her creative talent beyond lyrics and music.
“I usually come up with a video idea and then it builds from there. Especially when we start shooting, I find that more ideas start to emerge.
Ainsley praises and uses iMovie as her main video editing platform, “I really love the editing process and fitting the shots into their places in the song. It’s very satisfying to piece it all together.”
Her 2018 single, Walls was one of FBi Radio’s Most Played Tracks of 2018, with the single also receiving airplay from triple j and Double J radio.
Ainsley has toured with Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, Angie McMahon, Jess Locke, Katy Steele, Brightness, Slow Dancer, Emma Davis, Morning TV, and Nadia Reid (NZ). The Sydney-based American artist is known as one of Australia’s most impressive singer-songwriter and performer by Farrell.
