Capitol Records Announces Key Partnership With Top Dawg Entertainment

The Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) flag is flying high atop the historic Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood in celebration of Capitol’s partnership with the powerhouse independent label.

The two labels have joined forces to present hotly tipped artist Doechii.

The Tampa-based rapper/singer/dancer/genre-disruptor/fashionista has dominated the internet since the release of her unwaveringly original EPs – 2020’s Oh the Places You’ll Go and 2021’s BRA-LESS – and the single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” which has generated over 32 million streams on Spotify alone.

    Doechii says,

“The legacy of Capitol and TDE continues with me and my fans…and the legacy of my music starts right here, right now.”

“Top Dawg Entertainment is excited to partner with Capitol Records to provide a platform for Doechii to fulfill her artistic ambitions,” says Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, founder of Top Dawg Entertainment.

“Doechii’s energy is contagious and, together with Capitol, we’re committed to helping her share her gifts with the world.”

“The first time I heard Doechii’s music, I experienced that incredible chill-inducing feeling that I live for, as both a music executive and music fan,” recalls Michelle Jubelirer, Chair & CEO, Capitol Music Group.

“That feeling has only grown deeper as I’ve gotten to know this amazing young artist and heard more of what she’s been creating in the studio.

It’s a real honor to be partnering with Top Dawg and TDE as we work to introduce Doechii to audiences around the world and help her develop into the global superstar we know that she’ll become.”

The announcement follows last week’s release of Doechii’s debut TDE track, “Persuasive,” which was produced by Kal Banks (Isaiah Rashad, J. Cole, SiR) and executive produced by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. Rolling Stone said,

‘Persuasive’ is an ode to late nights and partying just a little too hard, with Doechii – who has drawn comparisons to hip-hop visionaries like Missy Elliot – deploying her signature flow…”

Doechii, who featured TDE labelmate Isaiah Rashad’s “Wat U Sed,” has been named one of Spotify’s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as an Artist To Watch by Complex, Pigeons & Planes, and Hiphopdx. With her new TDE/Capitol partnership in place, Doechii’s reign has only just begun.

Capitol Music Group (CMG) is comprised of Capitol Records, Blue Note Records, Astralwerks, Harvest Records, and Capitol Christian Music Group, as well as Virgin Music Label and Artist Services. Capitol Music Group is based in Hollywood, California within the iconic Capitol Tower.

Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) was founded in 2004 by record producer Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, whose first signing was a 15-year-old Compton artist – Kendrick Lamar. After Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q joined the roster, they formed the group Black Hippy with Lamar. Isaiah Rashad, SZA, Lance Skiiiwalker, SiR, Reason, Zacari, Ray Vaughn, and Doechii also joined the TDE family.

Together with Aftermath and Interscope, TDE released the Black Panther soundtrack, which topped the Billboard 200. The label, which has sold more than 10 million combined units in the U.S. alone, sponsors an annual Christmas concert and toy drive in Watts, which assists families in need.
