Franz Von gives us a timely reminder that the “Power Be You” on the first single from his forthcoming EP.

Jamaican-born and Sheffield-based hip-hop artist Franz Von today unveils “Power Be You” – the centerpiece and foundation block of his forthcoming EP – a lively, dynamic sound that is rooted in UK hip-hop whilst mixing traditional sounds of the diaspora with jazz and electronics.

The track is accompanied by a powerful video shot on the streets, rooftops and communities of his hometown. At one point we see Franz in full body paint, depicting ancient Ghanaian Adinkra symbols found in both Ghana and Jamaica, symbolizing indigenous knowledge and the need to preserve and pass that on to the next generation, a message that is the very heartbeat of the record.

“This song is a message of empowerment, a prompt for us to recognize and embrace our inner strength.”

Following in the footsteps of other UK Afrofuturist rappers like Little Simz and Kojey Radical and with an unmistakable tone and flow reminiscent of UK hip-hop pioneer Roots Manuva, Franz Von unleashes his message through a masterful use of spoken word, rap and social commentary that simultaneously honours his heritage whilst looking for ways of pushing boundaries. “Power Be You” explores ongoing examples of systemic oppression, whilst reminding the listener of their own power as an individual and the importance of homegrown communities.

The forthcoming EP, People Di Powa, is a collection of songs which explores the impact of power imbalances and centralized control on people’s everyday lives – something that has never been more relevant in today’s political landscape – as well as the different types of power that we can access in society; spiritual, political, social and economic.

Produced by a superstar roster of producers from around the world including Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), Lucian Oniell, Labo Klandestino. Toni Smoke  and Chris Malpass and includes guest appearances from an array of talented guest vocalists including Mark Stoney, Cortney Dixon, Nicola Newman and K.O.G.

Franz Von’s first release “Escapism” set out his stall as a sophisticated and elegant rapper with social commentary at the heart of his music, exploring his indigenous African roots and how that translates into modern day hip hop and neo soul. Franz has spent a number of years playing alongside K.O.G and the Zongo Brigade and collaborating with celebrate artists including  Tony Allen, Onipa & Wiyalla,
