Out Now Scorcher: Recall Featuring Akelle

Scorcher enlists WSTRN’s Akelle to give us a heartfelt insight into life in the system with latest single “Recall.”

Scorcher’s recent form is arguably his best to date. The grime scene pioneer has managed to take the acting world by storm, has become widely renowned for his modelling and continues to deliver an onslaught of genre defining classics when it comes to his music. Following the success of his hit single “Jurgen” with the legendary “D Double E,” Scorcher comes through with yet another banger from his album “The Drama” (released 3rd December), in the form of “Recall” and teams up with WSTRN frontman Akelle.

A formidable figure in British Black music and entertainment, Scorcher aka Tayo Jarrett has many guises. With uncountable classic mixtapes and collaborations, Scorcher is a name synonymous to the golden years of grime and has built an unstoppable career on the back of it, one that was recently noted by Ed Sheeran in his recent Halfcast Podcast interview with Chuckie Online. A star on-screen too, he is known for starring roles in the likes of Top Boy, alongside Ashley Walters & Kano, Comedy Central’s “Drunk History: Black Stories,” as well as British films “Offender” and “The Intent,” 2021 was also the year that saw his BBC debut as part Steve McQueen’s “Mangrove” series – the five-part film series about the Mangrove Nine case in 1970 which recalled the “notorious 1970 prosecution that exposed police harassment of Black Britons.”

New single “Recall,” featuring top 10 hitmaker Akelle, is the latest track taken from Scorchers much anticipated album ’The Drama’. The album also features the likes of number 1 artist Tion Wayne, Grime scene favourite D Double E and MOBO award winning Moelogo. Featuring an afro infused rap beat, “Recall” provides the perfect foundation for Akelle to demonstrate his trademark R&B style as he masterfully blends his patois influenced vocals between sweet melodies and a skippy rap flow. Scorcher remains the focus and delivers an introspective and honest verse that discusses his time in and out of the prison system and how it’s shaped him as a person.

Attacking the beat with a hypnotic flow, the frankness and relatability of the topic drives home the feelings about being “Recalled” back into the system. With production from “Prgrshn,” the mastermind behind WSTRN’s hit single “In2,” the culmination of elements within this single make this a striking single and is sure to be an unmissable moment on the album. Partnered with a prison-set visual, the duo deliver a stellar acting performance as they perform in various settings on the prison grounds. Embellished with hard-hitting scenes of them interacting with guards, inmates and visitors, the result is a nod to the stark and tough times both artists have overcome.

On a continuous upwards trajectory and keeping his foot firmly on the gas, Scorcher delivers “Recall” whilst still riding the wave of his recent release “Jurgen,” which reached the top 40 iTunes Chart. He has also recently been shot for the likes of Equate and Notion Mag (as part of his modelling portfolio for Select Models), is currently playlisted at radio across 1Xtra, Capital Xtra and Kiss FM, supported by Spotify on their major rap playlists and is also set to appear in the new BBC One drama called “You Don’t Know Me.”
