How To Lead An Exciting Lifestyle

How To Lead An Exciting Lifestyle

Tales of adventure and exploration excite you, but you assume that’s all in the movies or the past.

What if you found out that you could actually lead a life of adventure and exploration? In fact, there are real-life explorers out there in the world today.

What they do and how they do it may have changed in the 21st century, but there are still so many reasons to travel more often and plenty of excitement to be found in the world.

    Know Your Field

First, find out as much as you can about explorers. Read about those from hundreds of years ago, like Marco Polo and Ibn Batutta, as well as the great 19th and early 20th century explorers such as Ernest Shackleton, Freya Stark, Richard Burton, Roald Amuldson, and Amelia Earhart. Then learn about the people who are exploring today. Some of them write books, but you can also find them in documentaries, on podcasts, on social media, and connected with organizations like the Royal Geographical Society in the UK. This will help you get a sense of the scope of possibility.

    Find Your Niche

The more you learn and take on some low-key adventures yourself the better an idea you’ll have of what your niche is. Maybe it’s rock climbing or frozen places, or maybe it’s all about kayaking. Consider as well how you want to document your adventures. Do you want to be a photographer, a filmmaker, or a writer? Or will you work with others who will help you turn your stories into a creative endeavor? Maybe you will decide to become an archeologist or an anthropologist. Notice that while there are not many uncharted places left on the planet any longer, there are still plenty of adventures to be had.

    Get Your Degree

You’ll need a degree if you are going to become an archeologist or an anthropologist, but a degree can also be helpful if you are looking at other endeavors as well. You can study a language or even linguistics, which can help you improve your overall language acquisition. You could learn film production. It might be useful to get a degree in fundraising. You could even learn how to run a small business, which is essentially what many explorers are today.

While there are loans available for college, be sure to look into scholarships as well, especially since these don’t have to be paid back. You can go online and find Going Merry college scholarships you may be eligible for that you might not have been aware of otherwise to help cover your tuition expenses.

    Sponsorship and Income

How do you make money? After all, you’ve probably never seen an ad that says “explorer wanted.” In fact, there are actually expeditions that run ads sometimes, and this can be a good way to get started in some cases. Note that these are not tours but genuine expeditions, for which you may be expected to do some fundraising and get some sponsorship.

You can raise your visibility on social media and write to brands about your next adventure and see if they are interested in sponsoring you. Sometimes, sponsorship only covers your gear, but many explorers make money from speaking engagements in between their journeys.
