Damola Davis Shares Afro-Pop Single: Gbese

The summer season is here — but that wouldn’t be complete without some sun-drenched Afropop. Fear not, Damola Davis has the remedy. The Nigerian-born U.K.-based musician is back with his latest single, “Gbese.”

With over a decades-worth of mileage in the Afrobeat/Afro-pop ecosystem, Davis’ music trickles out the speaker like it’s the by-product of a well-oiled machine. The three-minute heater boasts a choppy, rumbling undercurrent as Davis croons with impassioned, emotive lyrics. The nimble and delicate guitar licks melt into the track’s cavalcade of traveled instruments, making for a one-of-a-kind listening experience.

    Speaking on “Gbese,” Davis said:

“I really enjoyed recording this song as I channelled my chilled vibes on ‘Gbese’. I created this song as a quirky and fun way to appreciate all types of women and their curves, and how it is such a worthy investment to break the bank for.”

“Gbese” follows Davis’ signature 2020 track “Vacationship”: a track co-signed by multi-Grammy Award winning record producer Anthony Kilhoffer — who’s credits extent to everyone from Kanye West to Michael Jackson.

The Nigerian vocalist’s other recent material includes the L.A.X-assisted Afrobeat scorcher “Don Dada” from March of this year, as well as February’s swanky, Kendoyll Simpson-produced ode to special women “Reigning Queen.”

Back in 2009, Davis joined the X-Element Music Group and spent his time sharpening his creative toolkit before moving to the Midlands, U.K. where he resides today. After a handful of well-received singles, Davis blessed fans with his EP, The True Godzilla — skyrocketing its way through the stratosphere and claiming the number #1 spot on iTunes’ Nigerian charts.

Damola Davis has still been busy cooking up a storm in the studio, though. Davis recently announced “Gbese” would assume the role as the leading single from his upcoming third EP — slated to drop this summer.

In February 2022, Davis headlined his first sold out show “A Night With Damola Davis” at Smade Lounge, Ilford which has set him the titular artist on a creative warpath.
