Should You Wear A Hairpiece or Get A Hair Transplant?

Should You Wear A Hairpiece or Get A Hair Transplant?

Hair loss affects many of us at some point in our lives.

While some people are happy to embrace it, many of us find it difficult to say goodbye to our hair.

Wearing a hairpiece or getting a hair transplant are two solutions that could allow you to still have a head of full hair. One is a temporary option, while the other is a semi-permanent option that requires surgery. Just which solution is right for me? This post delves into the pros and cons of each.

    Why wear a hairpiece?

Hair pieces are pretty much like wigs, except they’re not designed to cover the whole head. When used to combat hair loss, they’re often used to cover up patches. The result is a fuller head of hair.

Cheaper hairpieces tend not to be very convincing – it may be difficult to find one that blends in with the rest of your hair and that doesn’t slip. However, if you’re willing to spend a little more money, you can guarantee something of better quality. Custom hairpieces can be made to look as authentic as possible. These are generally still a lot cheaper than getting a hair transplant.

A hairpiece may only be a temporary measure, but it prevents the need to undergo surgery. You don’t have to worry about post-surgery complications like scarring or infections – there are pretty much no health complications that can be developed from wearing a hairpiece. If for some reason a hairpiece does cause discomfort, you can always remove it and replace it for a new hairpiece.

    Why get a hair transplant?

A hair transplant involves taking hair from another part of the body and transferring it to your scalp. The hair then continues to grow, just like normal scalp hair. It’s a more permanent solution, as opposed to a hairpiece that you still have to remove at the end of each day.

Some people do experience complications such as infections or even added hair loss following a hair transplant, however generally speaking these procedures have a high success rate. Scarring is a common side-effect, but can often be hidden by the hair itself. There are also treatment options such as hair transplant scar repair that can hide scarring.

Which is the right option for you?

You should first consider how much you’re willing to spend. A hair transplant is expensive – it can cost thousands of dollars. Saving up this amount of money could be difficult for some people. A hairpiece is much cheaper and more ideal for those on a tight budget.

You should also consider how willing you are to go under the knife. Some people may not mind undergoing an operation, but others may find it daunting. Getting a hairpiece is a lot less scary.

Of course, a hairpiece won’t permanently conceal any bald areas on your head – there could be situations where you have to take it off. If you want a permanent treatment solution, a hair transplant is the way to go.
