Virtual Reality Technology To Take Online Casinos To The Next Level

We currently live in an era where tech is developing at a rate we can barely keep up with.

From mobile phones to smart watches, from robot home hoovers to robot food delivery services, tech is slowly taking over every aspect of our lives. Tech and software advancements also give innovative ideas and concepts the space to thrive in and reach audiences all around the world.

One of the more successful introductions to the online realm in recent years has been online casino play. Online casino providers worldwide have enjoyed rapid rises to prominence, aided by the increased time spent in the digital world. With online casinos fully established as an entertainment avenue, there is the potential for the industry to take an even larger step with the help of another piece of tech that is slowly making its way into the mainstream.

    It begins with Batman

Although virtual reality technology has been around for decades already, dating as far back as the late 1960’s, the implementation of it into the gaming industry has not been a resounding success to date. However, experts in the industry believe that now is finally the time for Virtual Reality (VR) gaming to make its mark on the world. On 22nd October 2024, Batman: Arkham Shadow was released, exclusively for owners of Meta Quest 3 VR headsets.

Those involved in the VR industry will be hoping that the game continues to reel in positive reviews and are also hoping that the latest Batman game can pave a successful path for VR games for years to come. Even from the trailer, there were clear signs of the progress VR tech has made in the interactive features available to the player. From fighting baddies to swinging between buildings, all performed within the immersive virtual Gotham City created by Camouflaj, Batman: Arkham Shadow could light the touchpaper for the VR industry.

VR to bridge the gap between physical and online casinos

With online casinos currently thriving on the worldwide stage and raking in billions of GBP, USD, EUR worth of revenue in different markets, protagonists within the industry might be wondering how the industry can continue to grow. The answer to that question is probably by bridging the gap between land-based casinos and the online experience. Virtual Reality can play a huge part in achieving this and is possibly the next step for online casinos.

    Creating a truly immersive experience

Much like console game developers trying to create the most interactive world possible for the player, the same approach can potentially take online casinos to the next level. Game play in blackjack, roulette, poker, and online slots has already made incredible strides over the past years, with evidence of its success in the revenue figures. The US alone generated USD 19.54 billion in 2023. However, there is still a distinct difference between the real-life casino experience and the one played on the full range of electronic and digital devices.

Live dealer games for casino table games already have a concrete footing at many online casinos, but the prospect of virtual reality casino play, with online slots the obvious target for VR implementation, is one that can add the realism currently missing from online casino play. The Daily Star listing for USA casinos contains a long list of online casinos, and an incredible range of games. However, many online casinos are yet to incorporate virtual reality games onto their platforms.

With the tech available, and rapidly improving, it might just be a matter of time before we see more virtual reality online casino games. The ability to handle your own cards at blackjack or place your stakes on the roulette table can be a game changing aspect for the online casino industry.
