    Nauli is a yoga practice with a history spanning thousands of years. It is a simple exercise that involves people contracting and relaxing their abdomen.

    There are four major steps in Nauli Kryia, with each targeted at a part of the abdomen:

    • The Uddiyana Bandha targets the upward abdominal lock. It uses the lungs by emptying it to push the abdomen up.
    • The Madhyana Nauli targets the central abdominal muscles. It uses the uddiyana bandha to push the abdominal muscles out. This will lead to the contraction of the central abdominal muscles.
    • The Vama Nauli targets the left abdominal muscles.
    • The Daksina Nauli targets the right abdominal muscles.

    There is also the rotation of the abdominal muscles in alternating clockwise and anticlockwise directions.

    Strengthens the Abdominal Muscles

    The major benefit of Nauli is its effects on the abdominal muscles. It isolates the rectus abdominis, i.e., the six-pack making it attractive to many people. Nauli is effective in strengthening the abdominal muscles due to its contraction and rotation mechanism. Therefore, there is a buildup of strength in the abdominal walls’ surrounding muscles.

    As a side benefit, Nauli also targets the body core. This makes it ideal for building up the body’s core strength.

    It Helps in Exercising the Internal Organs

    Nauli has two effects on the internal abdominal organs. One is that it helps to massage the organs. This will lead to their stimulation and results in a healthier organ. The other is in the improvement of the blood flow to these internal organs. Therefore, they function more effectively.

    It Reduces the Chances of Heartburn

    Note: People suffering from heartburn should not perform Nauli. This is because it can lead to the aggravation of the condition.

    Note: Pregnant women or women trying to conceive should STEER CLEAR of Nauli because it has the opposite effects on the body.
