6 Reasons To Go Kayaking Today

When it comes to getting outside there are many things we can do, mostly it depends on what we like doing and what is accessible to us, but there is so much out there that people don’t know about.

Runners will often have routes they will pound over and over again without realizing there’s a beautiful nature trail 10 minutes away from them. Sometimes it takes us to look up to see there’s so much more we can be doing.

Kayaking is one of those great sports that people often overlook.

Here are 6 reasons why you need to go kayaking today.

    It’s A Good Workout

Let’s not ignore a benefit that comes part and parcel with kayaking, you may do it for other reasons, but it’s an incredibly good workout for your arms and your core. Kayaking can burn a lot of calories to get in shape. You can paddle for hours and when you finish you will most certainly feel as though you’ve been exercising. After a few months of kayaking, you’ll notice a difference, which for something that people do for entertainment is a brilliant side effect. You don’t get toned arms and a sick pack from sitting and watching the television!

There are obviously different levels of difficulty when it comes to choosing the river you kayak on, and you should consider this before jumping in, it can be a dangerous sport if you’re not equipped with the right skills. If you want a harder workout and you aren’t able to handle white water just yet, try and paddle faster and go further.

It Doesn’t Matter How Old You Are

Because of the varying difficulties available to you, it doesn’t matter what age you are. As long as you have a boat and this important piece of equipment, then you can gleefully float down the river as comfortable as ever. You can even take your kids, just make sure they have their life vests on and understand how to make the activity as safe as possible.

Kayaking is a brilliant family activity that everyone can get involved in. Just imagine a day trip with the family to the river, paddle down for a few hours, and jump out for a picnic and paddle back when you’re ready. A lovely, relaxed way to spend a day with those you love.

    Meet Others

There is quite a vibrant kayaking community so you’ll never be far from meeting someone with similar interests. Everyone is really friendly and if you’re just starting then people will be more than happy to help you. You could even join a club to maximize your experience and learn all the tips and tricks you need to be a competent kayaker. Most towns or villages with a river running through will have some sort of club attached to it, take a look and find a new hobby.

    Adventure

There’s something about the word ‘adventure’ that always lights a little fire in my belly. Whether it’s because it reminds me of being a child playing in the woods with my pals or that I still just want to get out and explore. Either way, kayaking is one of the best ways we can set out on an adventure.

There are so many types of kayak that you can get them specifically designed for this exact reason. Baggage holes in the front and back of the kayak will allow you to put all your essentials for your trip with space for a tent too. Kayaking is not only for rivers but lakes, canals, and even the sea! Your adventure is whatever you make of it when traveling in a kayak.

    At One With Nature

Something people miss out on having a relationship with nature. Even in the most populated cities, you will find nature and it’s so important to who we are as humans. Take a trip to your local river and immerse yourself in your surroundings. There’s nothing better than a quiet, warm afternoon floating down the river looking at everything around you. River life, birds, farm animals, plants, trees, flowers, the list is endless.

    It’s Fun

Finally, what better reason than it’s fun? Whether you chose to travel on a river or the sea, being able to enjoy it with your friends is a feeling like no other.

It’s fine if you can’t get out and go kayaking today, especially if you don’t have the right equipment, but you need to consider getting involved in a sport that’s as good as this. It has so many great benefits for the mind and body, and on top of it all, it’s a great day out with your friends and family. Get involved now, you will have zero regrets.
